Halo 2 - How Often Did They Simulate The Halos Firing?
In Halo 2, Penitent Tangent says of the Halo they’re on -
“This installation has a successful utilization record of 1.2 trillion simulated and 1 actual.”
1.2 trillion simulated and 1 actual.
That’s A LOT. How often were they testing? The Halos were fired 100,000 years ago. How often does that come down to per day?
Now, a lot of the simulations might've been done BEFORE the firing. But we know the Halos were constructed over - at most - hundreds of years, and 100,000 years is a heck of a lot more than a hundred or two.
For the sake of brevity, let's just act as if all the simulations happened in the interim between the firing and Halo 2.
Let's do the numbers.
A trillion is A THOUSAND BILLIONS. That looks like 1,000,000,000,000
So 1.2 trillion would be -
1,200,000,000,000.
Let’s break the 100,000 years down.
There’s 365 days in a year.
100,000 x 365 = 36,500,000
There were 36.5 million days between the firing and Halo 2.
If we divide the number of tests by the number of days, we’ll get the number of tests a day.
1,200,000,000,000 / 36,500,000 = 32,876.7123288.
Let’s round up and say 32,877.
Penitent Tangent ran 32,877 tests a day! For 100,000 years!
When I first envisioned this I was guessing maybe 10 or 20 a day. That's a lot!
