She-Hulk Episode 1 - A Vital Introduction

 Ephraim Belnap

The She-Hulk premiere was good! I will say that I'm glad that I waited for more episodes to come out, because I wouldn't like having to wait between these. But here and now, it's great!

Doing spin-offs is often really clunky because you have to make people like a character in their own right, not just because they're tangentially related to someone more popular. She-Hulk, cousin of Bruce Banner, is an especially obvious example. But it works very well. In 35 minutes, the premiere gets us on her side, understanding her headspace, and leaving us excited to see where the story will go. Bruce Banner is present for most of the episode, walking us through the life of a She-Hulk, but it's clear the story can also stand without him.
