List of Plotholes in The Snyder Cut

By Ephraim Belnap

Spoilers for Zack Snyder's Justice League below!

'17 Steppenwolf didn't have to declare his superiority; he got right on that.

The big one first:

  • Why doesn't Darkseid remember Earth? He said it was the only planet that defeated them and the planet that holds his Holy Grail - the Anti-Life Equation. Do they have a 5,000 year embargo on mentioning or trying to re-conquer planets they lose to, and Darkseid just spontaneously got amnesia in the interim? I know this is a minor thing because they're framing it like this to set up sequels, but surely there was a way around this!
Continuity-related ones:
  • Why does Aquaman's friend Mera randomly have a very strong Australian accent when she didn't in Aquaman or the '17 Justice League
  • Why does Mera say her parents died when in Aquaman her dad's still alive? Would it have killed them to dub this or just borrow one shot from the reshoots?
Just plain stupid ones:
  • Batman was just going to let them get killed by Superman if he came back wrong instead of having any contingencies
  • The heroes would have 100% failed if Flash didn't randomly discover with no foreshadowing that he could go fast enough that he could go back in time
  • "Guys, we can't stay out in the open or he'll find us" - he being the one person they seem to think they stand no chance of beating. Proceed to inexplicably continue talking in the open. Get caught.
    • And a great warm character scene between Lois Lane and Martha Kent gets turned into a plothole with a last-second cameo

It's notable that the things that also happened in the '17 cut got explanations there! The Snyder team had plugs for their plot holes and threw them aside!

As a bonus, here's a list of things people criticized the '17 cut for that were apparently in the original cut all along:

    • Batman hands out his secret identity very casually
    • Flash has about 80% of the same jokes
    • Cyborg's robot half randomly attacks Superman so they can have a Superman fight

And as a final flourish, here's:

A List Of Things The Snyder Cut Indisputably Did Better:

    • The CGI.

That's it. Considering the original cut's CGI was insanely rushed to hit a quick release date, and that the Snyder team potentially had as long as three years to do theirs, this is hardly a victory.
