Films I Loved - Edge of Tomorrow

Directed by: Christopher McQuarrie, who has since gone on to direct the last two Mission Impossibles

Starring: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Brendan Gleeson

Edge of Tomorrow was so good. The kind of product you get when you let a superstar’s team, an already-good script, the CGI people, and the leading actors all do their jobs right. Like most great films, it’s actually an adaptation - this time of a manga light novel - but it’s so original with its work that you don’t risk spoilers with it. It’s got such good action, such good character work (it’s been described as “that Tom Cruise movie where Tom Cruise has to learn how to be Tom Cruise”), and such good handling of its gimmick (you respawn each time you die) that it really feels like something only a movie could be, as opposed to a book or a game or a show. Recommend, recommend, and recommend.
